The Palestine Herald-Press, in conjunction with Grace Temple Church of God in Christ, will hold its 13th annual “Stocking Stuffers” Christmas Toy Drive to benefit local children.
Last year, the toy drive provided toys for more than 400 children in our community.
“As the Stocking Stuffers toy drive enters its 13th year, we need to keep in mind the many families this effort serves. Typically over 400 children have toys beneath their Christmas tree on Christmas morning thanks to the generosity of the benevolent folks in Palestine and Anderson County,” Herald-Press Publisher Gary Connor said. “As the need grows, so does the outpouring of love from our community. Thanks to everyone who supports the Stocking Stuffers toy drive.”
Applications for families needing assistance for toys for children up to age 11 will be taken from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Monday, Dec. 3 at the Herald-Press office located at 519 N. Elm St.
Unwrapped toys will be accepted at the newspaper office Monday through Dec. 17 and distributed to the families before Christmas.
Herald-Press subscribers who bring in a toy worth at least $8 can receive a 25 percent discount if they renew their subscription for six months or more.
New Herald-Press subscribers who bring in a toy worth at least $8 can get four months of newspapers for $25.
“God has made a way for the past 12 years by touching the hearts of the people here in Palestine. No matter what has happened in the past — even though the economy is down and money is tight — the people have not failed to come through for the toy drive,” toy drive coordinator Pequita Casteel said.
