Westwood High School alumni Kimberly Crawford was appointed to the Westwood Independent School District Board of Trustee’s District I position during the school board meeting Monday.
“She is a graduate of Westwood who moved away for a while and then came back. Now she’s serving back in her community again,” WISD Assistant Superintendent Dr. Clint McClain said Tuesday.
Longtime school board member Carey McKinney resigned from the board Sept. 30 after moving out of the district. In total, McKinney served 14 years, from 1988 to 1997 and from 2007 until Sept. 30 of this year.
Also during the meeting, the board approved an employee retention incentive pay option for the 2012-13 school year.
Each WISD employee employed by the district for at least a year as of July 1, 2013 will receive a $500 employee retention incentive bonus on their July 2013 paycheck, McClain said.
“Hopefully it will be an incentive to stay around with us for another year. It will be a good back-to-school shopping bonus for all of those employees,” McClain said.
In addition, the board approved the bid for the upgrade of WIFI capabilities at the junior high and high school campuses.
“This will help us get ready to have the One-to-One Student Initiative in place by next year for the students and for the teachers later this year so that they can have the chance to take professional development opportunities prior to the students having use of the WIFI in the fall,” McClain said. “We are ready to do great things for our students academically next year.”
