The Anderson County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate a hunting shooting accident which claimed the life of an Anderson County man over the weekend.
Charles Elliott, 56, was shot while hunting hogs on property in the 1500 block of FM 1137 about 8 p.m. Sunday.
“Mr. Elliott was hog hunting on 4 wheelers with a longtime friend from Houston County. At some point, the two became separate and when the friend, a while male age 55 years old, fired at some hogs, Mr. Elliott was struck one time by the large caliber rifle,” ACSO Chief Deputy Troy Black said. “The bullet severed an artery in his leg.”
Elliott was treated by EMS at the scene and transported to Palestine Regional Medical Center where he later died.
“Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Anderson County DA's office for grand jury consideration,” Black said.
