PALESTINE —

Grace United Methodist Church has purchased 116 acres of new property at the location of the former Meadowbrook Country Club.

The church is planning to relocate there early next year from its current location at 1918 E. Murchison St.

“The church has experienced such incredible growth over the past two years. We are simply out of space. This is a great opportunity to not only have growing room, but also a place where the community can benefit as well,” said Grace UMC Board Chairman Dewey Williams.

In addition to a worship and discipleship center for the church, the plans for the property are many, but they include a new worship center, a play area for children, coffee shop, volleyball court as well as developing partnerships with public and private entities for the swimming pool, existing golf course, driving range and tennis courts.

“We want this to be an open place for the community…not an exclusive members-only club. Grace is not that kind of a place anyway. We’re open to everyone,” Grace UMC Senior Pastor the Rev. Phil Chamberlin said. “We strive to be the people of the second chance, because God is a second chance God — a place where it’s OK for people not to be OK.”

The property is located at 2130 Country Club Road.
