On Friday, the students of the University of Texas at Tyler Innovation Academy – Palestine campus will host a “Natural Disaster Awareness and Preparedness Carnival” open to the Palestine community.
The event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at the UT Palestine Innovation Academy campus site.
The purpose of the event is to allow academy students to premiere student-created Natural Disaster Preparedness and Relief Aid documentaries and raise funds for the American Red Cross in the form of a student-run carnival.
Guests can purchase tickets with canned food, new toys, and/or cash.
“Students have designed booths as part of the carnival that will persuade individuals to donate, inform about natural disasters, and entertain with lots of fun!” a school news release said. “This project was inspired by academy students wanting to contribute to the relief aid being provided after the Hurricane Sandy disaster that occurred at the beginning of November 2012.”
The campus is located next to the Texas Department of Public Safety office and across from the Palestine Civic Center on U.S 287/Texas 19 North.
