Our Town: Annual Neches Heritage festival set Saturday

PALESTINE — With the theme “Neches Pioneers,” the Neches Heritage Festival will kick off with a parade at 10 a.m. Saturday through Neches, ending at the Marvin Skeen Community Center on FM 19 in Neches. The grand marshal will be Brice McDonald.

Festivities will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include arts and crafts, food, cake walk, children's games and planned activities. Local entertainment is planned using a new sound system.

“All are invited to come and enjoy the fun-filled day,” committee member Elaine Huddleston said.

There is still time to sign up to have a craft booth or food booth by calling Pat Grounds at 903-584-3134.

The 5th Annual Cake Bake-Off also will be held. To enter, call 903-922-9083 or call Huddleston at 903-724-4698. After cakes are judged, a Cake Walk will be held. In addition, there will be children’s games and planned activities.

The parade will line up at the Neches city limits sign on FM 2574. To enter, call Arlene McReynolds at 903-584-3371.

Also, the Heritage Committee will take donations for a chance to win a Savage Arms Winchester 243 with a Bushnell Scope. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Tickets will be sold at Van’s Country Store or committee members at festival grounds. The drawing will be held at 3 p.m. You do not need to be present to win.

Montalba School Reunion Saturday

The Montalba School Reunion is scheduled for Saturday at the Montalba Community Center on Texas 19 North in Montalba.

A barbecue meal will be catered for a fee; bring your favorite dessert. Ice tea and water will be provided by the local residents.

Registration will begin at 3 p.m., the program will begin at 4 p.m. and the meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. Bring lawn chairs.
