CROCKETT — Back by popular demand, East Texas’ native son Neal McCoy will be returning to the Crockett Civic Center for his popular Christmas show — performing his greatest hits and favorite Christmas songs.
The show will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Crockett Civic Center. This all-ages holiday show will be presented by the Piney Woods Fine Arts Association and sponsored by KIVY /KMVL, Houston County Courier, Messenger and County Life magazine.
McCoy was born in Jacksonville and raised singing in the church choirs before founding an R&B band when he was young. He then switched his focus to country music and started performing in the bars and clubs in the area. In 1981, he won a talent contest that helped him secure a spot as an opening act for Charley Pride. He toured with Pride until 1990, releasing the singles "That's How Much I Love You" and "That's American" during this time. Pride was a big influence on him during these early years in his career and the two have remained close ever since.
Neal has three platinum and one gold album, in addition to numerous awards for Entertainer of the Year and Video of the Year.
Some of McCoys hits include “Wink,” “For A Change,” "If I Was a Drinkin’ Man” “Billy’s Got His Beer Goggles On” a remake of Pride’s “You’re My Jamaica.” McCoy honored his longtime mentor and friend Pride in 2012 by releasing the album “Pride: A Tribute to Charley Pride” featuring guest appearances by Darius Rucker and Trace Adkins.
McCoy still stays close to his East Texas roots by heading up a charity called the East Texas Angel Network, which helps provide money for families of seriously ill children.
