Our Town: Fundraiser to benefit Elkhart fire victims Saturday

PALESTINE — A fund-raiser benefiting a family devastated by a recent house fire will be held Saturday in Elkhart.

The hamburger, snow cones and cotton candy fund-raiser will start at 10 a.m. at Old Teel’s General Store, located between Dollar General and Elkhart High School in Elkhart.

Proceeds will benefit Liane Vanstory Reed and Walter Reed II. Liane lost her two children, 19-year-old Shauna Vanstory and 13-year-old Michael Murdock II, after a fire destroyed their home on June 26.

80th Birthday

Percilla resident Raymond Jordan is celebrating his 80th birthday and invites friends and family to celebrate with him during a party to be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Percilla Community Church fellowship hall.

The church is located at the intersection of FM 228 and FM 2022, approximately six miles east of Grapeland and seven miles south of Slocum.

No gifts please — just your presence is appreciated. Jordan is the husband of Francis Jordan.

Country-western dance slated

The Palestine Senior Activity Center, located at 200 N. Church St., will hold a country-western dance from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The doors will be open to the public at 6:30 p.m. The Texas Express Band will perform. Cost is $5 per person.

Those attending are asked to bring finger foods or snacks to share at the 8 p.m. break. Coffee and tea are available and donations are appreciated.

Everyone is invited, regardless of age.

Low-cost vaccine clinic set

BARC, the Humane Society is offering low-cost vaccinations on Thursday. Shots will be given by appointment, due to scheduling.

The clinic is being underwritten by a generous grant from Palestine Junior Service League.
