The Palestine Police Department is seeking the suspect in a Wednesday armed robbery in which a man’s coat was taken at gunpoint and left at a church parking lot.
According to police, the 35-year-old victim reported that he was walking east in the 300 block of Texas Avenue when we was approached by a black male.
“The suspect pulled a semi-automatic handgun and demanded that the victim surrender his coat,” Palestine Police Department Sgt. James Muniz said. “The victim turned over the coat to the suspect fearing he may be shot.”
After surrendering his coat to the suspect, the victim ran to a nearby business where he called police.
“The victim was unable to give a very good description of the suspect’s face,” Muniz said, “however, the victim did get a good look at the clothing the suspect was wearing — black jeans, a black or dark colored jacket with a hood pulled over his head and tennis shoes.”
The suspect, armed with what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun, left the scene on foot and ran in an unknown direction.
Officers quickly responded to the area and conducted a search for the offender — looking behind houses and on the property of a local church.
“The stolen coat was recovered on the grounds of a church in the 300 block of Texas Avenue,” Muniz reported.
Police are asking that anyone in the area who may have seen this incident or that may have information concerning the incident or the suspect to call the Palestine Police Department at 903-729-2254 or Crime Stopper at 903-729-TIPS (8477).
