PALESTINE — Palestine Police Department officers are investigating a possible case of domestic violence during which a man was stabbed in the shoulder after entering a residence uninvited.

According to police, officers were called to a home in the 100 block of West Kolstad St. concerning a possible burglary of a habitation just after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police met with the female victim who advised them that her former boyfriend and father of her two children had come to her residence uninvited,” PPD Sgt. James Muniz said. “The suspect entered the residence through the back door and assaulted the victim.”

According to Muniz, the alleged victim stated that she was assaulted in the kitchen of her home and was pushed against the counter near the sink.

“It was at this point that she was able to grab a knife from the kitchen sink and stab her assailant in the shoulder,” Muniz said. “The suspect ran from the house and left the location before police arrived on the scene.”

Police were able to make contact with the suspect while he was being treated for his wound at a local hospital.

Officers are investigating this incident as a possible domestic violence crime. No one had been arrested as of Wednesday. There is the possibility of an arrest in the future, Muniz said.

The names of those involved are not being released at this time because detectives are still trying to determine the exact role each person played in the incident.
