Police investigate pharmacy burglary, criminal mischief at civic center

PALESTINE —

The Palestine Police Department is seeking leads in two different crimes that occurred on Thursday, one involving the masked burglary of a pharmacy in west Palestine and the other being a case of criminal mischief at the Palestine Civic Center.

According to reports, at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to an alarm at Bratton’s Pharmacy, located at 2350 W. Oak St., adjoining Kim’s Convenience Store.

Upon arrival, officers found that an unknown offender had broken out a drive-thru window at the pharmacy. The offender, apparently wearing a clown mask, entered the business in search of prescription medications.

“Witnesses to the event observed a person, approximately 5’10 tall or taller, walk to the front doors, and pull on them, and then walk to the west side of the building (noted as being the side of the building with the drive-thru window),” PPD Lt. James Muniz reported. “The witnesses heard the alarm sound, and shortly thereafter observed police arriving on scene.”

The suspect is believed to have left the scene on foot, prior to officers’ arrival. Officers conducted a search of the area, but were unable to locate a suspect in connection with the offense.

“This offense is still being investigated and the property loss has not been finally determined, regarding any stolen medications,” Muniz said. “We do have some leads to follow up on in this case; however, any assistance that the public can give would be appreciated.”

In a separate incident, PPD officers responded to the Palestine Civic Center at 1819 W. Spring St. at about 7:48 a.m. Thursday in reference to a criminal trespass/criminal mischief call that had occurred sometime during the overnight hours.

Upon arrival, officers learned that an unknown offender or offenders entered the building by means of forcing entry through a door on the northeast side of the Civic Center.
