Similar to a Vacation Bible School, but for Christmas — The Antioch Church will hold a free Children’s Christmas Extravaganza and Workshop next week with special events for children each night.
“It’s a community effort. We are wanting to find a way to excite the kids as we share the message of Christmas,” the Rev. Roy G. Duncan said Thursday.
The Children’s Christmas Extravaganza and Workshop will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Dec. 19-21.
Kids will learn the true meaning of Christmas through drama, dance, singing, Christmas-themed arts and crafts and more. A meal will be provided at 5:30 p.m. each evening and on Friday, the kids will enjoy pizza and a movie “Polar Express™” where children are encouraged to wear suitable pajamas.
“Being a church that is child centric, we are just trying to come up with a way to reach kids in the community and do something exciting on their level while we introduce the message of Christmas and Christ, giving and sharing — making a widespread effort of focusing especially on the children,” Duncan said
At 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, the participants in the Christmas Extravaganza Workshop will present a grand finale Christmas performance at The Antioch Church. All children who attend will receive a gift bag.
Any child ages 4 to 12 years are welcome to attend the Children’s Christmas Extravaganza and Workshop. Transportation is available for all events if needed.
“We are going to be providing meals every evening, so parents don’t have to worry about feeding the kids before they drop them off,” Duncan said.
Both The Antioch Church building and its children and youth center, The Place, will be utilized for the event.
“We will view the Polar Express™ movie at The Place,” Duncan said.
Some of the music used during the activities throughout the week will be in Spanish.
“We want to reach out to the whole community,” Duncan said.
The Antioch Church is located at 907 E. Murchison St.
