OUR TOWN: Meals on Wheels plans rummage sale

PALESTINE —

Meals on Wheels of Palestine Inc. is planning an inside summer rummage sale and offering booth spots for the public.

“The sale will be held in the air conditioned comfort, no need to worry about the weather,” Meals on Wheels Executive Director Lois Durant said.

The rummage sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at the Palestine Senior Activity Center, located at 200 N. Church St. Spaces (20x20) will be rented for $30, which will include at least five tables and two chairs.

Those planning to have a booth can set up from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 25.

Korean War veterans to be honored

Korean War veterans are invited to a free barbecue lunch and ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, July 25 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 110 N. Line St.

 

Several groups are working together on the event including the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 63, Vietnam Veterans of America and Associates Chapter 991, American Legion Post No. 85, Knights of Columbus, Jordan Health Care, Encompass Home Health, Greenbriar Nursing & Rehab Center, Choice Rehab, IntegraCare, Kroger’s, Wal-Mart, Shep’s BBQ, Junior Miller and Lone Star Designs.

 

Bowling to Strike-Out Cancer

A Bowling to Strike-Out Breast Cancer event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m.. Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Palestine Bowling Center. Proceeds from the fund-raiser will go toward Trinity Mother France's Ross Breast Cancer Center.

The event will be $10 for adults (18 and above) and $5 for kids (ages 8 to 17). Prices include two games and one pair of shoes.

A drawing also will be held for two Dogwood 6 movie tickets, dinner for two at Cotton Patch Cafe and a one-night stay in a local hotel. Tickets are $5 each.
