PALESTINE — Anderson County resident Ruth “Granny” Taylor will mark her 94th birthday this Sunday. She has 112 descendants, including four sets of five-generation families.

Churches hosting chili events
Bethlehem Lutheran Church will hold its annual “Chili Friday” event from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31 at the church, located at 1515 S. Loop 256, across from Palestine High School.
The menu consists of your choice of homemade chili, Frito® pie or chili/hot dog with veggies, drink and homemade dessert. A drawing will also be held to win a door prize.
Dine-in or carry-out is available. Deliveries are available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the city limits with the purchase of five or more orders. For delivery, call 903-729-6362 before noon on Thursday.
Prices are $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.
St. Philip's Episcopal Church will hold its 53rd annual Chili Fiesta from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at the church, located at 106 E. Crawford St. in Palestine.

The Palestine Chapter 395 Order of the Eastern Star will hold a tamale dinner fund-raiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Masonic Temple, located at the corner of Queen and Debard streets.
Tamales with chili and cheese, Spanish rice and beans will be served along with tea.
A bake sale also will be held with a variety of desserts available ranging from individual slides to whole cakes and pies.
Tickets can be purchased at the door.
