PALESTINE — Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor reported that the County Jail has passed a surprise inspection by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards that took place on Wednesday and Thursday.
“We have a surprise inspection every year,” Taylor said. “They come in and do a very thorough inspection — looking at inmate records, life safety and security and talking to the inmates themselves.”
With the exception of a few minor issues regarding paperwork, the jail passed the inspection.
“With those very minor issues, they just instruct us on correcting it,” Taylor said.
The Anderson County jail has a capacity of 300.
“Our judges/courts are doing a good job keeping things going and keeping inmates moving through the system,” Taylor said. “The citizen's jail is continuing to meet standards.”
