The Palestine YMCA will hold a “Heart Happy Super Saturday” event Saturday featuring a preview of the Y's fitness classes, the family-friendly game “Ga Ga Ball,” free chair massages, blood pressure checks and other activities for all ages.
In conjunction with Heart Awareness Month, the YMCA is hosting the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to draw awareness to heart disease. This event is open to the public with a $5 donation for the American Heart Association.
“We here at the YMCA are committed to help people to work towards a healthier lifestyle, which leads to a healthier heart. We will be showing off some of our great group fitness instructors previewing the classes they love to teach. We will cap off our Super Saturday with the launch of BODYPUMP™ release 88,” YMCA Wellness Coordinator Ryan Pence said. “We also will have message therapists giving chair messages and also free blood pressure checks done by Resolutions Weight Loss Center. Also we will have our Rock Climbing Wall open and you can check out the coolest game around — Ga Ga Ball — a game fun for the whole family.”
Every year, about 715,000 Americans have a heart attack. About 600,000 people die from heart disease in the United States each year — that’s one out of every four deaths. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women.
Cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, costs the United States $312.6 billion each year. This total includes the cost of health care services, medications, and lost productivity. These conditions also are leading causes of disability, preventing Americans from working and enjoying family activities, according to information from the American Heart Association.
Offered at the YMCA, BODYPUMP™ by Les Mills has been going strong helping people get healthier year after year for 10 years now. BODYPUMP™, the original Les Mills barbell class, helps sculpt, tone and strengthen your entire body. The class uses the BODYPUMP™ formula: THE REP EFFECT™, a resistance workout training that focuses on low weight loads and high repetitive movements to burn fat, gain strength and quickly produce lean body muscle conditioning.
BODYPUMP™ also is one of the world's fastest ways to get in shape as it challenges all of the major muscle groups while you squat, press, lift and curl, a YMCA news release said.
“The cutting-edge BODYPUMP™ choreography and chart-topping music is refreshed every three months, so with your choice of weight and hinstructors you can get the group effect and the results you've been looking for,” a YMCA news release said.
Using BODYPUMP™ can improve your strength: Perform 70 to 100 repetitions per body part totaling up to 800 repetitions in a single workout; improve general fitness; shape and tone muscles; protect bones and joints from injury; help individuals get into shape fast and feel confident.
