Our Town: Boy Scout Troop 441 reunion being planned

PALESTINE —

Plans have begun for a reunion of former members of Palestine Boy Scout Troop 441.

The date of the reunion has yet to be determined, but an organizational meeting was held recently to start the process of gathering names, mailing addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses for as many former Troop 441 members as can be located.

Former Troop 441 Scoutmaster Robert Hightower asks that former troop members contact either himself at 903-723-0418, Harold Campbell at his office number, 903-729-3183, or Gerald Bratz at 903-399-4756 to register.

“I've wanted to do this for years,” Hightower said. “We had a great group of guys who took pride in being the best troop in the Thunderbird District. It will be great to get everyone together again, view memorabilia and reminisce.”

If you are a former Troop 441 member, or you know someone who was a member, but is no longer a resident of Palestine, contact Hightower, Campbell or Bratz at the numbers provided.

Arts Council to meet March 8

The Anderson County Arts Council will hold its annual planning meeting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8 at the Old Magnolia Sandwich and Coffee Shop, located at 120 W. Oak St. in downtown Palestine.

All people interested in visual arts, music, theatre and photography are invited to attend. The Arts Council is often the liaison for the arts in this county.

“We do not always do the detail work but promote and encourage arts in this county,” ACAC member Rosemary Biel said.

Last year, ACAC participated in pop up art galleries, five concerts, student art exhibit, Mall-O-Ween and Festival of Trees.

“This year we need to consider those events plus helping people with a painting project by the library, other concerts, helping our classical guitarist in new ways plus developing new members and new ideas from others, like new artists attending Brownwood,” Biel said.
