Lakeview Methodist Conference Center receives 6.5 million grant

PALESTINE — Lakeview Methodist Conference Center is one brick closer, so to speak, on a $15 million construction campaign after receiving a $6.5 million grant from the Moody Memorial Permanent Endowment Fund.

A longtime supporter of Lakeview, Moody Memorial PEF is a part of the Moody Methodist Church in Galveston and of the Texas Annual Conference of the Methodist Church.

Currently in the early stages of its $15 million capital campaign, titled "For Such a Time as This," Lakeview will seek to raise $8.5 million over the next four years to reach the goal. With the grant, which the center received Feb. 20, Lakeview has been able to continue with plans to expand, improve and renovate the conference center, encompassing the following projects: relocation of the Sisk Maintenance Shop (Completed November 2013), relocation of Windham Dormitory Complex, replacement of the Wesley Dormitory Complex and renovations to Roy Hall, Snack Shack and the game room.

Additional plans to build an up-scale RV park and a rustic scout camp on Lake Wilson also are in the works, along with plans to create new hiking and biking trails, improve landscaping and design of the central plaza and make infrastructure improvements.

A groundbreaking for the Windham Dormitory Complex is set for this month, with an anticipated 10-month time frame.
