Three Crockett men are behind bars after Palestine police received a call about a possible kidnapping.
Jerry Dyches, 59, Scott Kindle, 40, and Danny Smith, 36, all of Crockett, were arrested during the early morning hours Saturday, after a 911 caller reported a man had allegedly been taken at gunpoint and was being held inside a truck, apparently against his will. The victim’s identity is not being released.
Police reports indicate the call was received just before 1 a.m.
“The caller was able gave the police dispatcher the information on the truck and a description of the offenders,” Palestine Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. James Muniz stated in a release made available to the Palestine Herald on Monday. “The victim was transported to the Palestine Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. The victim’s injuries were not life threatening.”
Reports said Palestine police located the truck on Loop 256 near Spring Street after an investigation.
Law enforcement officials said the victim told investigating officers he went to a home located off Farm-to-Market Road 320 in Anderson County. Once he reached the residence, the three men allegedly came from behind a house and assaulted him.
The victim claimed he was hit with a metal baseball bat, a metal flashlight and was threatened with a gun, before allegedly being forced into the truck with the men and driven away from the scene.
All three suspects were charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first degree felony that carries a prison sentence of five years up life in prison.
Kindle was also charged with the offense of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony which carries a punishment range of up to 20 years in prison.
All three men remain in the Anderson County Jail as of Monday.
