Dogwood Jamboree set Saturday, June 22 in Palestine

PALESTINE — The Branson group “The Texans” are among the performers set to entertain the audience during the Dogwood Jamboree set for 7 p.m. Saturday, June 22 at the Palestine Civic Center.

“The Texans” perform regularly at their dinner theater in Eureka Springs, Ark.

“We are so happy to bring this Branson group to Palestine for the first time,” Dogwood Jamboree Producer Dan Manuel said. “The Texans have been in Branson with their own show for the last 20 years.”

Also featured on the show is Jake Penrod, who sings Hank Williams songs.

“We have been requested to bring him back to the Jamboree and we look forward to having him on the show in June,” Manuel said.

The show also will feature a “Salute to George Jones.”

“George recently died and several of the performers will be singing songs recorded by Jones who was no doubt one of the greatest country music artist of all times,” Manuel said.

Others who will be performing that night are: Joe Hancock, Sissy Perry, Neal Hall, W.J. Copeland, Hal Roper,  Tammy Bostick, George Lester and Manuel.

Three young artists under age 18, who were selected in a preliminary competition, will compete for the Dogwood Jamboree Talent Search for June. A panel of judges and audience vote will go toward choosing a winner, who will advance to the finals on Dec. 7.

“These young people along with others are talented and we are happy to have them on the show,” Manuel said.

The theme for the show in June is “All American Country”.

“It is amazing how many people come from the Metroplex area, Houston and other parts of the state for the Jamboree,” Manuel said. “We continue to receive great reviews from numerous country music publications like ‘American Profile,’ ‘Coast To Coast Country Music Magazine’, the ‘In Magazine,’ etc. Instead of going to Branson this summer, we are bringing Branson to Palestine.

Band members on the show are: W.J. Copeland, Shelia Weaver, Mike Kellogg, Bobby Perry, Billy Lane, Neal Hall and Rick Wheat. Sandy “Flo” Singleterry is the featured comedian.

“This is sure to be one of the best performances of the Jamboree and we encourage Palestine and the surrounding area to join us along with visitors for various cities and states as we continue in our ninth year of production,” Manuel said. “I’ve always said, if you ever attend one performance, you will want to come back as you listen to the songs that classic country music fans have listened to through the years.”

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show will start at 7 p.m. During the intermission, door prizes donated by local merchants and businesses will be given away to ticket holders.

Advance tickets are $12.50 and available at Cavender’s Boot City, Hometown Pharmacy, Dogwood Diner, Bishop’s Bar-B-Q or by calling 903-729-7080. Advance tickets can be brought through 5 p.m. Friday, June 21. After that, tickets must be purchased at the door for $15 per adult.
