PALESTINE — The City of Palestine will celebrate Christmas a little early this year with its first-ever “Christmas in July” event July 18-29 that includes 12 days of food, shopping, fun and holiday preparations.

The festivities will kick off on July 18 with two celebrity design experts from Dallas and Houston. Stephen Dankesreiter, Creative Director of Polly Dupont, and Melissa Snow of Melissa Snow Designs, will share their holiday trends for 2013.

Dallas-based Polly DuPont was named the Best Tabletop and Kitchen Accessories store in the September/October 2012 issue of D Magazine. The store has been in business since 1946 and carries more than 400 patterns of formal and fine china.

During the 12 days, a variety of activities and entertainment will be available, including holiday shopping on Palestine Main Street, “Women Who Wine for Holiday Food & Wine” at Red Fire Grille and a “Hawaiian Christmas” for children at O’Sweet Pea.

“Main Street focuses on our history and traditions, but we keep an eye on the future,” Palestine Main Street Manager Laura Westgate said. “With that in mind, we have partnered with local artists to create a pop-up art gallery on West Oak Street.

“This gallery will be open July 26-28 only and will feature work from local and regional artists, in a mix of mediums and styles.”

Santa will arrive for his summer “daycation” at the Reagan Park Sprayground on Sunday, July 28, and the City of Palestine will unveil the 2013 holiday schedule on Monday, July 29 at the historic courthouse square.

“We are excited to unveil our 2013 holiday theme and schedule in July,” City of Palestine Marketing Manager Breezy Lake-Wolfe said. “Visiting Palestine with the family is special any time of the year, but without a doubt the weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day are magical.”

Other events during the “The Twelve Days of Christmas in July” will include the Piney Woods Steam Excursion at The Texas State Railroad, the Palestine Community Theatre’s “Annie” musical at the Texas Theater and the Harvest Fest & Grape Stomp at Sabor a Pasion.
