A man working on city property was injured Monday afternoon after debris from a nearby mower struck him.
According to the city’s press release, “Work crews for the City of Palestine were performing routine upkeep on Reagan Park lawn areas. While mowing, a maintenance worker struck an object with the mower. The object then struck an employee of a private contractor. The worker was transported to the hospital.”
The release said no information on the man’s condition was available.
According to witnesses at the scene, the injured worker was flown from Palestine to a Tyler hospital Monday.
Several telephone messages to Palestine Interim City Manager Wendy Ellis and the city’s Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments left on Monday and Tuesday were not returned.
The website, safetyengineeringresources.com, states the Insurance Information Institute recently reported about 75,000 people require emergency room treatment annually for lawn mower accident injuries.
City officials did not release any information concerning the injuries the worker sustained on Monday or what may have caused those injuries.
