PALESTINE — A Waco woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident early Sunday morning in west Palestine, after weaving off the road and back into oncoming traffic.

Palestine police officers responded to the accident in the 4600 block of West Oak Street at about 6:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers learned that a Chrysler PT Cruiser had been involved in a crash with a truck tractor.

The initial accident report indicated that the Chrysler was traveling east bound on West Oak Street, and the truck tractor was traveling west bound.

“The Chrysler left the roadway, traveled approximately 200 feet along the grass, returned to the roadway and crossed over the center stripe, where it collided with the trailer of the truck,” PPD Sgt. James Muniz said.

The driver of the Chrysler, 21-year-old Tranessa Nicole Reed of Waco, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace James Westley. An autopsy was ordered by Westley, with results pending.

The 42-year-old driver of the truck was not injured in the accident, nor was he cited in the incident.

“The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation at this time,” Muniz said. “Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers also responded to the scene and will be assisting with the investigation.

“Officers will be trying to determine if speed and/or alcohol may have played a part in the crash.”
