A show of gratitude: Westwood ISD Band Boosters complete trailer sponsor panel

Palestine Herald-Press

PALESTINE — After a plea to the community in November, the Westwood Independent School District Band Boosters reported receiving all the funds needed for the purchase of a wrap for its new band trailer.

And as promised, those who donated funds toward the project will soon see the special recognition they are due, with the completion of a sponsor panel located on the back of the trailer.

“We got a lot of response from the community,” band booster activity coordinator Debbie Chambers said. “We have gotten the wrap done and are putting the sponsor names on the trailer now.

“We just want to thank them for their sponsorship,” she added. “And we thank our school board and Superintendent Dr. Ed Lyman for their continued support of the band program.”

The 28-foot long trailer, which features a large black panther in front of a music staff notes, was purchased through a joint effort of the WISD school board and the band boosters.

The design for the trailer wrap was submitted by and voted on by fellow band students, with student Kaitlyn Webb’s design winning the contest.

“We wanted to bring a sense of pride into the community, and to make a statement when we are at out-of-town events,” Chambers said.

RAM Auto, a major sponsor for the trailer, took the content and premise of Webb’s design for use on the wrap’s design — installing the wrap and donating $1,000 toward the project.

With that project behind them, the band boosters are focusing their fundraising efforts toward raising funds for a trip to a band competition at Disney World in Orlando, Fla. in 2015.

The booster club has several fundraisers planned this year — the next one being an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast fundraiser that will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Applebee’s in Palestine. Cost is $6 a plate, which includes pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee.

“We also will have a table at Meet the Panthers night (tonight),” Debbie Chambers said. “We will be signing up new members and doing face painting.

“We want to show unity between the band and athletic boosters. We are a team — a family.”
