Our Town: Fish fry fundraiser to benefit victims of recent fire


The Tennessee Colony community and churches will hold a fish fry fundraiser Saturday for local residents L.C. and Sandra Brown, who lost their home and all their belongings to a fire last weekend.

The benefit includes a fish fry from noon to 6 p.m. at the Massey Lake Community Center.

Fish dinners will be sold for a per-plate donation and donations of money, household items and clothing items will be accepted as well.

Live music will be performed during the event, with local groups and soloists invited to perform.

Massey Lake Church of the Living God is sponsoring the event.

According to organizers, the Browns lived at the residence with two young grandsons. No one was home at the time of the fire.


Gospel Music Festival

If you enjoy gospel music, the Dogwood Trails Gospel Music Festival will be the place to be on Saturday, March 22 during the first weekend of the Texas Dogwood Trails Celebration.

The annual Gospel Music Festival will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Palestine Senior Activity Center, 200 N. Church St.

Musical entertainment will be held throughout the day on the following schedule:

• 1 p.m. — Southern Joy

• 1:30 p.m. — Wise County Bluegrass

• 2 p.m. — Troy and Joyce Dancer and the Campbell family

• 2:30 p.m. — Gospel Heirs

• 3 p.m. — The Grants

• 3:30 p.m. — Wayne McInnis & Friends

Admission is free. Refreshments will be available.

Piano concert in DFW area

Jessica Zhan, who performed at the Palestine Nimble Fingers Concert last May, will be performing with the Plano Symphony Orchestra Saturday at the Charles W. Eiseman Center in Richardson.

Zhan received grand prize at a recent competition with young musicians in her county.

The grand prize allows her to be a visiting artist on the grand piano with the Plano Symphony Orchestra.
