Our Town: Fish fry fundraiser to benefit victims of recent fire



“Thank you Palestine people and the Anderson County Arts Council for giving her the opportunity to play in Palestine first at First United Methodist Church. Her sister Rachel played as well local youth performers Aaron Jackson and Thomas Willingham,” Anderson County Arts Council member Rosemary Biel said. “If you are able to go to this Saturday, you will get the opportunity to hear Jessica again.”

Both Jessica and Rachel Zhan have won first place in the Dallas Symphony piano competitions in previous years at their age levels.


Lady of Standards Scholarship Pageant

The 5th Annual Miss Palestine Area Lady of Standards Scholarship Pageant is set to take place Saturday, March 22 at Antioch Baptist Church.

The focus of the pageant is to encourage all contestants to embrace their God-given beauty, gifts and talents.

Age divisions include 5-9; 10-14; and 15-19.

Areas of participation include: private interview, talent and Sunday best.

Pageant Director Kristi Johnson states their mission is to build confidence and self-esteem in each girl that participates.

Scholarships, cash and prizes will be awarded. Each contestant will receive a trophy for participation.

The pageant will start at 4 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, 907 E. Murchison St. The theme is “An

Evening of Praise & Purpose.” Admission is free.
