PALESTINE —

The top 10 graduates of Elkhart High School were honored this past week during a luncheon hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Palestine.

Each spring, during the months of April and May, the local club honors the top 10 graduates of four area high schools: Palestine, Westwood, Elkhart and Slocum ISDs, respectively.

During Tuesday’s luncheon, Tom Watson, president of the local club, welcomed the soon-to-be graduates and offered each student a chance to speak about their future plans and aspirations.

“We like to hear about their goals and dreams,” Watson said during a subsequent interview, a sentiment shared by Kiwanis District Lt. Governor David Bratz, who coordinates the annual luncheons.

“Being the top graduates of their school, we want to recognize them because they’re our future leaders,” Bratz said. “So that’s our main purpose is to recognize the fact that they’ll be going to college, and we want them to be able to tell us exactly what they’re doing and their future plans.”
