PALESTINE — If you feel like shouting, “Baby, it's cold outside!” — then it might be time to warm up with a little aerobic exercise.
Registration is now open for the Freeze Your Buns 5K run, co-sponsored by Palestine Regional Medical Center and the YMCA, to give Palestine’s 2013 Frost Fest Celebration a running start.
The race will take off Saturday, Dec. 7, at 8 a.m. on a USA Track and Field certified course beginning at 401 W. Main Street and continuing through downtown Palestine. Participants are welcome to run or walk at their own pace.
Race day registration will be available from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., and the cost is $30 for everyone. T-shirts will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis but are not guaranteed.
Alan George, past president of the Palestine Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Palestine Regional Medical Center, said the 5K race is a new event for Frost Fest.
“We are excited that this year’s race is USATF certified. Last year we started small with a Family Fun Run as part of Frost Fest, and it was well received,” George said.
Registration forms will be available at the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce. Participants may also register online at the Frost Fest website. Packets will be available on the morning of the race.
Awards categories include an overall winner and runner-up, as well as a winner and runner-up in male and female divisions.
In addition to the 5K race, Palestine's Frost Fest will present an array of fun-filled events to usher in the holiday season, from snow tubing to ice skating. For more information regarding Frost Fest, the Freeze Your Buns 5K, or to register for the race, please visit www.palestinefrostfest.com.
