Search for murder suspect continues in Leon County

BUFFALO —

As of Tuesday morning, the Leon County Sheriff's Office was continuing to follow up on leads while searching for a fugitive homicide suspect believed to be in the Leon County area.

Officers from the Leon County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshals Office are looking for murder suspect Colt Morgan, 29, of Harris County.

Investigators believe Morgan was in the Buffalo area of Leon County the week of Nov. 11.

Morgan has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Wende Marshall, 44, who was last seen on Oct. 30 in the Harris County area, according to a LCSO news release.

That was the day before Marshall called her father to say her boyfriend, Morgan, had just asked to marry her. But when the couple didn’t show up for dinner a couple days later, Marshall's father called law enforcement.

Investigators went to the couple’s home in Harris County and found, according to court documents, “blood on the floor in the hallway” and “blood spatter on the bed blanket,” the news release said.

After getting a warrant, investigators said they found even more blood stains and evidence suggesting someone tried to clean it up. There also was fresh paint on some of the walls and doors and human bones inside the fireplace, according to investigators.

Investigators think Morgan stabbed Marshall to death after an argument, and then burned her body and buried it in her backyard, the LCSO news release said. Detectives also found human remains after conducting a search at Marshall’s house located in the 11200 block of Fleur Drive in northwest Harris County, the news release said.

Around 8 p.m. Saturday, the Buffalo Police Department attempted a field interview with Morgan. During questioning by the Buffalo police officer, the suspect attempted to flee and assaulted the officer by head-butting him, the LCSO news release said. The suspect fled on foot in the area of the Family Dollar Store in Buffalo.
