The Anderson County Farm Bureau reached out to local food banks during Texas Food Connection Week, Feb. 16-22, presenting each of six local food banks with a $200 donation.
Local food pantries receiving the donation included United Pentecostal Church, Palestine Community Food Pantry, Stock Pot, First Resource Center, St. Vincent DePaul and Dogwood Hills Baptist Church.
Farmers and ranchers across the state organized community activities, donated to local philanthropies and spurred conversations with consumers during the week-long program.
“Texas Food Connection Week is about sharing what we do on our farms and ranches to grow our food fuel and fiber,” Anderson County Farm Bureau president Jeff Croft said. “Young people and adults have questions about their food and agriculture. This week gives farmers the opportunity to start and informative conversation with them.
“Food is one thing that connects everyone. We work hard every day to provide families with fresh, nutritious and affordable food,” Croft said. “We look forward to connecting with consumers.”
Texas Food Connection Week, formerly Food Check-Out Week, was established to connect farmers with their customers and spur conversations about agriculture and food related issues, including affordability, nutrition, animal welfare, profitability and productivity.
