PALESTINE — The Palestine Police Department, in conjunction with the World Wear Project based out of Dallas, is teaming up with the citizens of Palestine and Anderson County by providing another way for community members to donate to a good cause.
The World Wear Project has placed a collection bin, approved by Walmart Supercenter, in the parking lot at 2223 S. Loop 256, at the former Goodwill donation location.
The World Wear Project accepts shoes, clothing, hats, caps, purses, backpacks, toys and stuffed animals. The goal of the organization is to make gently worn clothing and shoes affordable and available to people domestically and internationally who might otherwise be unable to afford them – while partnering with local entities such as the PPD.
A portion of the proceeds will be returned to the community by benefitting the PPD Narcotics/K9 Unit. An account has been set up to deposit these proceeds, as well as any other donations that citizen may wish to contribute. Proceeds that the police department receives will be calculated at a rate of approximately 12 cents per pound of donations.
In future weeks, World Wear Project plans to bring additional bins to this location and possibly other locations around the city.
