Palestine Police Department officers are seeking suspects in the robbery of a fast-food restaurant during which the business’ safe was stolen from the property on Saturday.
According to reports, officers responded to the area of North Queen and Green streets at about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday in reference to a call about suspicious persons.
“We were advised of two men in the area carrying a large object,” PPD Sgt. James Muniz said. “The caller saw the men, thought something was not right, and yelled for the men to get away from the area.
“The caller also yelled that the police were on the way,” Muniz added. “The men dropped the object and fled the scene on foot.”
Upon arrival at the scene, police found that the object the men had dropped was a safe that had been stolen from the Sonic on Palestine Avenue.
“Officers later found that the front door to the Sonic Drive-in had been smashed with a large rock,” Muniz said. “They confirmed that the safe did in fact belong to the Sonic.”
Police were able to develop some leads in the case and to recover some items of evidence from the area that will be forwarded to a DPS Crime Lab for testing.
The incident is still under investigation at this time.
The PPD asks that if anyone in the area may have seen the suspects or a suspicious vehicle in the area, that they immediately call the Palestine Police Department at 903-729-2254 or Crime Stoppers at 903-729-TIPS (8477).
