City to host gaming tournament Saturday

PALESTINE — For those who enjoy gaming, the City of Palestine will host a “Black Ops II: Call of Duty” Tournament on Saturday.

“Last year’s ‘Call of Duty MW3’ tournament was a success and we hope to have more participation this year,” City of Palestine Event Coordinator Heather Hrebec said.

The tournament will start at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Palestine Civic Center. Check-in begins at 8 a.m.

“It’s double elimination and the game will be played on X-Box 360 and Playstation 3. The tournament consist of two-member teams and the final will be best two out of three with the game being played on both systems,” Hrebec said. “The grand prize is a $300 cash prize and all proceeds benefit the Hot Pepper Festival.”

Participation is open to ages 13 and up. Participants age 13 to 16 must have parental approval.

Early team registration is $30 and ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Day of event team registration is $40 and begins at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Registration forms are available and can be returned to the Palestine Civic Center, Palestine Visitor Information Center, Palestine City Hall, Game Xchange and www.cityofpalestinetx.com.

Each team consists of two people. Each team can choose their own teammates. If an individual signs up for the tournament without a teammate, that person will be randomly chosen for a team. For more information about rules, read over the registration form.
