PALESTINE —

Palestine firefighters are scaring up a hauntingly good time this Halloween with the Palestine Fire Department's 4th annual Fright Night haunted house.

The house, featuring more than 1,700 square feet of chills and thrills, opens from 7 p.m. to midnight, this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18 and 19; Oct. 25 and 26; and on Halloween night, Oct. 31.

"We're closing at midnight each night, but we guarantee if you're in line at the stroke of 12, you'll get in," said Lt. Devin Jackson, a Palestine firefighter and one of Fright Night's organizers. "And it'll be well worth the wait. We've got some just incredible things going on this year.

The haunted house is located in the old garment factory at 3600 W. Oak St., in Palestine. Check out the event's website, www.palestinefrightnight.com for directions.

Admission is $10, or half-price to any patron who helps 'scare out hunger' by bringing two canned goods to donate to local food banks or a bag of dry pet food to donate to the county animal shelter.

"Last year we collected three full pallets of food and every bit of that went to the food banks right here in our own hometown," Jackson said. "We added the pet food donation this year to help out the animal shelter, too."

This year's event also added several drawings for prizes including a date night gift package and a flat screen television.

"We've got some really nice prizes in it," Jackson said. "Something for everyone."

Proceeds of Fright Night benefit the Palestine Firefighters Association. Sponsors of the event include the Palestine Fire Department, the City of Palestine, Red Hot Rentals, Lee Loveless Photography and KYYK 98.3.
