Missing woman’s remains found in lake

PALESTINE — The recent recovery of a missing Palestine woman’s body has prompted an investigation into her death.

Palestine resident Linda Kay Blackshear’s remains were recovered from Richland Chambers Lake in Freestone County on Aug. 19. She had been reported missing to the Palestine Police Department on Aug. 16, by a close friend, according to PPD reports.

“On Monday, Aug. 19, the body of a black female was located in the water at Richland Chambers Lake just south of the dam,” Palestine Public Information Officer Lt. James Muniz stated in a press release sent to the Herald-Press late Friday afternoon. “An autopsy was conducted and the female was identified as Linda Kay Blackshear of Palestine. The cause of death will not be determined until the final autopsy report has been completed.”

According to police reports, her vehicle was reportedly found on Aug. 17, near the lake on FM 488 in Freestone County, in good condition, with its keys and Blackshear’s cell phone and purse still inside the vehicle.

“There were no signs of foul play and no signs of a struggle at the location,” Muniz stated.

The incident is still under investigation.

“Police have talked with a number of people, including family members of the deceased,” the press release states. “Additional information will be released when it becomes available.”
