SLOCUM — Some Slocum residents are currently under a “boil water” notice.

Due to a new line install on ACR 181, the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality has required Slocum Water Supply Corporation to notify all customers located on ACR 181, ACR 1814, ACR 1811 and ACR 1812 area to boil their water prior to consumption through Thursday. The order started on Aug. 29.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and for making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption.

The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify residents that the water is safe for consumption.
