SLOCUM — A boil water notice for residents of parts of the Slocum area on Aug. 30 was extended Friday by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) through the Slocum Water Supply Corporation.

Due to a new line install on Anderson County Road 181, the TCEQ has required Slocum WSC to notify all customers located on ACR 181, 1814, 1811 and 1812 area to boil their water prior to consumption until further notice.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and for making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption.

The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two (2) minutes. In lieu of boiling, consumers may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify residents that the water is safe for consumption. This rescind notice will be issued in the same manner as the Boil Water Notice.
