As of Thursday, several incumbents had filed to run for re-election in preparation for the May 11 school board elections for Palestine, Westwood and Elkhart independent school districts.
The filing period for the May 11 city and school board elections began on Jan. 30 and will continue through Friday, March 1.
Three Palestine ISD board incumbents have filed for re-election including: Dana Staples, Place 3; Rickey Ferguson, Place 4; and Janie Sepulveda, Place 5.
At Elkhart ISD, incumbents Paul Barnett (Position 2), Harold Holloway (Position 1) and Steve Ham (Position 3) also have filed for re-election.
Westwood ISD incumbents Theresa Bambeck (District 3) and Carolyn Booker (District 7) have filed for re-election as well. Mike Bentley has filed for the District 1 spot at Westwood ISD, currently held by Kim Crawford. Crawford was appointed to the WISD Board of Trustees in December 2012, filling a spot vacated by longtime school board member Carey McKinney.
The deadline to file for school board election at any of the three school districts is at 5 p.m. Friday, March 1 at the prospective school district’s superintendent’s office.
