Palestine H.S. theater group to present play "The Crucible"

PALESTINE — The Palestine High School Ovation Theatre Company will present its award-winning University Interscholastic League One-Act Play “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller at 7 p.m. Friday  and Saturday in the PHS Auditorium.

“This production marks the ninth consecutive year that the PHS Theatre Department has won the district championship and gone on to compete at the Area meet,” PHS Theatre Company director Eric Cates said. “Although the play did not advance from the Area meet, the students have gained a lot of experience and look forward to presenting the play to the public.”

Several individual awards were given as well — Roxanne Davis, Adam Hobbs and Haley Cook were named to the All-Star Cast at District and Area; and Caleb Lawson and Rigo Serralde were named to the Honor Crew at each contest.

“’The Crucible’ is a play about the witch trials of Salem and their affects on the people and community,” Cates said. “Admission to the production is free both evenings, and the Saturday performance also will feature a tribute to our senior cast members.”

The cast and crew includes: Adam Hobbs, Roxanne Davis, Greg Albright, Virginia Thigpen, Wyatt Marshall, Amy Witt, Caitlyn Morrow, Adolfo Munsinger and Caleb Lawson. Also, Kyle Hayes, Justin Hayes, Haley Cook, Christina Campos, Sade Varnado, Jordan Hobbs and Corie Ann Mason.

Rounding out the group are Briana Minter, Abbie Earle, Rigo Serralde and Niko Naeykki.

The Palestine High School Ovation Theatre Company is directed by Eric J. Cates.
