Even after all those midnight cookies, it turns out Santa still has room for breakfast in the morning.
Knowing this, the City of Palestine convinced him to come down and share his morning meal with local children for the fourth annual “Breakfast with Santa” from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. this Saturday at the Palestine Civic Center.
Santa and his elves will be in the building and will present a buffet of scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes and juice or milk, as well as some java for the older folks.
Heather Hrebec, coordinator for the event, said the civic center will be transformed into a jolly land of games, activities and door prizes to reflect the theme “Christmas in Toyland.”
Activities will include a “Snowball Bounce,” “Santa's Cupcake Walk,” “Pin the Nose on Rudolph,” “The Penguin Shuffle” and more. There also will be stations for children to make an ornament, have their faces painted, craft a cotton-ball beard for Santa, make “magical reindeer food,” or write letters with hope for return, Hrebec said.
“Kids can write letters to Santa, and they will be answered if we have the proper address.”
Every child will visit with Santa and leave with a gift, she added. Some may even leave with a bicycle or scooter, two of a handful of door prizes.
On top of all this, “Santa's personal chef is coming to cook breakfast for everyone,” she said.
“Santa will come in and briefly enjoy the meal, and then parents can take pictures with the kids in front of our Christmas tree with Santa.”
Proceeds from the event will benefit the City of Palestine Parks and Recreation Department.
“We have several different projects we're working on, so the proceeds are going toward that,” Hrebec, a PPRD member said.
“We just want people to come out and have a good time and visit with Santa.”
Tickets are $10 for children ages 3 through 11 and $12 for ages 12 and up. Children 2 and under will be admitted free.
Tickets can be purchased through 5 p.m. Friday at Palestine City Hall, at the Palestine Visitor Center, or at the Palestine Civic Center. After that, tickets can be purchased at the door, but may be limited.
The Palestine Civic Center is located at 1819 W. Spring St.
