Two Henderson County residents were arrested for drug violations and public intoxication Sunday following a “suspicious vehicle” call by a local citizen.
According to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor, Anderson County Sheriff's Office Deputy Andrea Pearson received a call to check on a suspicious vehicle in the 3000 block of CR 493 at 7:55 p.m. Sunday. The blue Kia Sportage was parked in front of a gate and the suspects were unknown to the people in the area.
“When the deputy got there the male driver was passed out and the female sitting in the vehicle was acting weird,” Taylor said. “When she got the passenger out of the vehicle, she saw marijuana in the floorboard of the vehicle. She got them both out and they both were slurring their words and couldn't stand. She could tell they were on something.”
The deputy found just under 2 ounces of marijuana — found in the floorboard and in the console in metal tins — and 6.4 ounces of drugs in a ziplock baggie that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
The driver, Bobby Dean Knox II, 17, of Gun Barrel City, and passenger Krista Leann Stralow, 18, of Trinidad, were both arrested for possession of marijuana under 2 ounces and possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 (4 to 200 grams), a second-degree felony. They both also were charged with public intoxication.
“My guess is with that amount of dope that they were trying to make a sale, but that they were at the wrong residence or had gotten lost since they were not from around here,” Taylor said.
Both Knox and Stralow received bonds of $20,000 each for the possession of a controlled substance, as well as a $750 bond on the marijuana charge and $299 fine for the public intoxication charges.
“This is another example of why citizens should call us when they see something strange. If they don't call us, many times they wish that they had. These people could have been thieves. We appreciate citizens making the phone calls to us in time before these people left,” Taylor said.
Both suspects remained in the Anderson County Jail as of Monday.
