Palestine police officers arrested a female suspect and seized over 19 grams of methamphetamine and a small amount of marijuana during a recent traffic stop in north Palestine.
According to Palestine Police Department Lt. Jeff Powell, Cpl. Brian Lintner conducted a traffic stop on a Cadillac DeVille for a traffic infraction at about 1:50 a.m. Friday in the 900 block of North Queen Street.
“During contact with the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 31-year-old female,” Powell said, “Cpl. Lintner learned that she had several suspensions placed on her driving record, which resulted in her initial arrest for driving while license invalid.”
During a subsequent inventory of the vehicle, Lintner and backup officer Marcos Lara observed what appeared to be marijuana in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
According to Powell, a more thorough examination of the area led them to observe some suspicious circumstances regarding some personal property within the passenger compartment that was apparently being used to secret illicit drugs and marijuana.
A field test of the drug showed that the item in question was methamphetamine, Powell said. Officers determined that the substance weighed in, including packaging, at 19.1 grams. The marijuana weighed less than .5 ounces.
“Corporal Lintner, as well as other members of the shift, did an outstanding job,” Powell said. “This is just good patrol work on the part of that officer and the shift in putting the pieces of the puzzle together resulting in a solid felony arrest.”
In addition to the DWLI charge, the woman was charged with possession of marijuana under 2 ounces, and possession of controlled substance PG-1, 4-200 grams, which is a second degree felony.
The approximate street value of the methamphetamine alone is between $1,000 and $1,200, police said.
Upon arrival to the Anderson County Jail, the female was searched and also was found in possession of cash, which was seized as contraband related to the criminal enterprise at that time, police said.
