PALESTINE — Two East Texas men are dead after their vehicles collided head on Friday.

Twenty-eight year old Elbert H.L. Harrison Jr., of Palestine, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, as was Joe Martin Chambers, 76, of Spring, Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety’s initial reports indicate Harrison was traveling south in a 2001 Ford F150 pick up on Texas 19 in Trinity County around 4:40 p.m. Friday.

Chambers was traveling south along the same highway when Harrison’s truck apparently crossed into oncoming traffic and struck Chambers’ 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Police reports state both men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
