First United Methodist Church of Palestine will hold its annual Beef, Bakes & Bids Bazaar on Saturday with a variety of events for everyone.
The fund-raiser will be held in the FUMC fellowship hall with a barbecue lunch served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $8. Dine-in and take-out meals will be available.
At 1 p.m., the live auction will start.
“For our live auction, we have everything from handmade quilts to hunting trips and handmade yard art and cakes to auction off,” silent auction chair Mary Upton said. “For the silent auction, we have many different items donated by merchants in Palestine. We also have two Miyoko Callaway paintings donated by a member of our church.”
An Ethan Allen desk and whole sets of name-brand dinnerware also are on the auction list.
A silent auction and the Country Store also will be available for those in attendance.
“For the first time, the Country Store will be presented in conjunction with the Beef, Bakes & Bids Bazaar,” spokeswoman Carla LeGard explained. “The Country Store was born out of a need to utilize the church members' untapped talents and to allow members to be more involved in church activities.
“These talents include canning, cooking, sewing or anything else a church member can make,” she added. “Small handbags, scarves and unusual potholders are among the items we have, for example.”
A quilt drawing will be held for a quilt called “Pinwheels in My Garden.” Tickets are $1 each.
Proceeds from the Beef, Bids & Bakes fund-raiser will go towards repairs to church parking lots, sidewalks and lighting.
