Just as the warmer weather arrives, the City of Palestine Parks & Recreation Department will celebrate the opening season of the Reagan Park Splash Park with a Splash Bash from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24 on Memorial Day Weekend.
“We will have music, activities and door prizes,” City of Palestine Event Coordinator Heather Hrebec said. “The Citizens on Patrol will have concessions available to purchase at the event.”
Starting May 24, the Splash Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day.
The railroad-themed splash park, which officially opened September 2012, is a project of the Palestine Junior Service League, which, with help from the City of Palestine and a grant from the Texas Parks & Wildlife, raised the $354,000 needed to fund the project.
According to Roy Crouch, City Parks & Recreation Director, the PJSL contributed $153,000 of the funds needed for the splash park, with the City of Palestine contributing $126,800 and the TP&W grant providing $75,000.
