PALESTINE — A Palestine man was arrested this week after a resident spied him entering a neighbor’s garage.

Andrew Deberry, 20, was taken into custody after Palestine police caught him inside the garage of a residence in the 100 block of Edna St. A neighbor called the department about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday after observing an unknown young male enter the garage and appear to be going through items in the building.

“Deberry was identified as the person that was inside the garage,” PPD Public Information Officer Lt. James Muniz stated in an official statement released to the Palestine Herald. “With further investigation it was also determined that Deberry had an outstanding warrant from Houston County for sexual assault.”

According to police reports, Deberry was also found to have drugs in his possession when officers took him into custody. The suspect also was charged with possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.

“The residence where this incident took place was next to Westwood High School,” Lt. Muniz stated.

Deberry was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation, sexual assault, possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone and possession of a dangerous drug. Bonds were set at $15,000, $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000, respectively.

He remained in the Anderson County Jail as of presstime Thursday.
