The Elmwood Volunteer Fire Department will hold a fundraiser and barbecue from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Elmwood VFD station, located at the intersection of Anderson County Road 4452 and Farm Market Road 315.
The menu includes barbecue brisket and sausage, potato salad, beans and a beverage.
The minimum contribution per plate is $10. Meat is available to go for $12 a pound. Carryouts are available.

5K Run/Walk to aid missions
Judson Baptist Church is sponsoring a 5K Run/Walk to Hungary on May 11 in front of the Bethel Community Center across from Cayuga schools on U.S. 287.
Sign up begins at 8:15 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m. Cost is $15 if paid before Saturday or $20 on the day of the event. Forms may be downloaded at www.judsonbaptistchurch.com.
Proceeds from the event go the Judson Baptist Church’s Mission Fund for a mission trip to Hungary, where members will participate in 22 English as a Foreign Language Camps.
There will be water stations along the route.

Garage sale to benefit autism
The second annual benefit yard sale/rummage sale for Autism Speaks Team W.C. will be held May 3-5 at 112 Montgomery St. in Elkhart.
Every year Team W.C. walks in the Houston Autism Walk in support of 5-year-old William Connor Hampshire, the son of former Palestine resident Jonas Hampshire (now of Porter) and great-grandson of Mary Timmons of Palestine.
“Last year’s sale was a huge success and we are hoping for bigger and better response this year,” Timmons said. “All proceeds will go to Autism Speaks Houston in support of W.C.”
W.C. also is the grandson of Melinda and Wayne Harris of Nacogdoches and great-great grandson of Lorine Pagitt-Jenkins of Palestine. Cousins Hayley and Matt Paul are hosting the sale.
