PALESTINE — Palestine Police Department officers are continuing to investigate a shooting that occurred at a local night club in the early morning hours Sunday, leaving a Fort Worth man in critical condition at a Tyler hospital.

According to reports, PPD officers responded to a disturbance at Club Tangeria, located in the 200 block of Saltworks Road in Palestine, after receiving the report of a man being shot at the location.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers and EMS found the victim on the ground in front of the club.

“Initial information from witnesses indicated that the victim had been sitting in a car in front of the club at the time of the shooting,” PPD Sgt. James Muniz said. “Witnesses also reported that a midsize car drove by and three to four shots rang out.”

The victim, hit in the arm and abdominal area, was transported to a Tyler hospital by air. He was  listed in critical but stable condition as of 9 a.m. Sunday. Identified as being from the Fort Worth area, the victim’s name will not be released due to the nature of the crime and his family being notified.

“Police have talked with several witnesses to the incident and will be following up on several leads concerning this matter,” Muniz said. “There are other people that we will be looking to speak with over the next few days.

“The investigation is still in the initial stages and there is more work that must be completed,” Muniz continued. “There has been no arrest at this time.”

PPD detectives were set to talk with one person of interest as early as Sunday afternoon.

According to information given to police early in the investigation, there were several possible witnesses to the shooting. Police are asking that anyone with information concerning this matter please call Sgt. Muniz at 903-731-8477 or Crimes Stoppers at 903-729-TIPS (8477).
