City council, school board elections today

Polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

PALESTINE — Voters will go to the polls today to select their candidates in city and local school board races.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In the city election, current District 5 council member Therrell Thomas and local businessman Timothy Triplett are vying for the city’s top spot as mayor.

Meanwhile, incumbent Steve Presley will face local businessman Sam Aryanpur on the ballot for the City Council District 6 spot.

City of Palestine polling locations include:

• District 1 — Freedom Fellowship Church, 125 Kickapoo St.

• District 2 — New Fellowship Christian Church, 1500 W. Reagan St.

• District 3 — Washington Early Childhood Center, 1020 Hamlett St.

• District 4 — Westwood Jr. High School, 1801 Panther Dr.

• District 5 — Palestine ISD Administrative Offices, 1007 E. Park Ave.

• District 6 — Palestine High School, 1600 South Loop 256  

Palestine and Elkhart independent school district also have contested races for school board seats.

At Elkhart Independent School District, there is one contested race. For the election, Position 3 incumbent Steve Ham will face candidate Gary McShan for that spot on the board.

Polls for Elkhart ISD will be open today at First Baptist Church of Elkhart, located at 424 W. Parker St.

At Palestine ISD, three incumbents filed for re-election including Dana Staples for Place 3, Rickey Ferguson for Place 4 and Janie Sepulveda for Place 5.

Candidates running against them include JoJo Dickerson in Place 3, Kenneth R. Jordan in Place 4 and Mitchell W. Jordan in Place 5.

PISD polling locations (by box) include:

• Boxes 1, 6 (partial, City District 6) and 13 (partial, City District 6) — Palestine High School, 1600 South Loop 256, Palestine.

• Boxes 3, 8, 15, 16, 17 and 13 (partial, excludes District 6) —  Palestine ISD Administrative Offices, 1007 East Park Ave., Palestine.

• Box 6 (partial, voters in City District 6) — New Fellowship Christian Church, 1500 W. Reagan St., Palestine.

• Boxes 7, 9, 10 and 21 — Washington Early Childhood Center, 1020 Hamlett, Palestine.

• Boxes 11, 22 and 23 — Montalba Community Center, 9590 State Hwy. 19, Montalba.

• Box 20 — Freedom Fellowship Church, 125 Kickapoo St., Palestine.
