Anderson County commissioners welcomed back a familiar face to its roll — unanimously approving former county extension agent Truman Lamb as the finalist for the position during their regular meeting Monday.
Lamb, who replaces recently retired Agriculture and Natural Resource Agent Mark Price, will begin his second stint with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service on Monday.
Precinct 1 Commissioner Joe Chaffin was more than pleased to see Lamb back in the role with the county, calling him “the best extension agent in the state of Texas.”
“We are truly happy to have you back in Anderson County,” County Judge Robert Johnston added.
Lamb has worked 23 years for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service (formerly known as Texas Cooperative Extension), serving Anderson County a total of 13 years during two stints. He worked in Anderson County from 1984 to 1987, then was transferred to Freestone County where he worked for eight years. He was then moved to Milam County where he worked for two years.
He moved back to Anderson County in 1997 and retired in November of 2007. Lamb has most recently been serving as the agriculture extension agent in Houston County.
“It is an honor to have the opportunity to return to Anderson County, “ Lamb told the court. “I was to thank the judge and commissioners for their support. I am ready to go to work.”
Also during the meeting, commissioners gave the OK to having Davey Dogwood Park surveyed, per a recommendation from Precinct 4 Commissioner Joey Hill and District Attorney Doug Lowe.
“We need a more current, up-to-date survey done on the park,” Hill said, “especially with a portion of the property for sale there, it was recommended that we go ahead and do it.”
Commissioners tabled two items on the agenda regarding reports from county treasurer Kim Turman — one to clarify and agenda item regarding IRS tax penalties and issues and a second regarding the minutes from the July 25, 2012 Budget Workshop.
Turman was not in attendance at the meeting to address those items.
